More of a "personal worst" in terms of race time, but I knew I wasn't going into this morning's Brooklyn Half-Marathon with the best foundation of training. Nevertheless, I was thrilled to cross the finish line on the Coney Island boardwalk in a little under two-and-a-half hours (my goal had been to finish in sub-2:30).
It was a blissful run, I was so relaxed in my pace, with easy breathing and heart rate, enjoying the sights around me and the breezes, and then having a little juice left for the last half-mile sprint to the finish. The two loops of the tree-covered drive in Prospect Park were lovely, then taking us out of the park onto Ocean Parkway (they reversed the course this year, which meant we had a steady downhill slope to the beach, rather than the steady uphill - - excellent improvement!) all the way down to the boardwalk.
Here are the victorious runners, Lena in a fantastic 8 minute mile pace, Laura breaking the sub-10 minute mile, and me, not giving a shit about my time and really just elated beyond belief to have the stamina to get to the finish line.
Sub 2:30 sounds like a good half to me!

Thanks, my philosophy is that any finished half is a good half, no matter the time.
